The retired President's security has been scaled down in what the Inspector General (IG) terms as a rationalization of personnel.

From 96 elite officers, he has been left with 25 while the former first lady has been left with only 5 officers. Further, the directive or the so-called rationalization led to the withdrawal of security personnel from The Former president's other family members.
Uhuru's right-hand men also felt the pinch as Former Interior Minister Dr. Fred Matiang'i and Former Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho's security has been scaled down from 18 to only 2 each.
Further security details of a number of individuals who enjoyed benefits on account of their relationship with the former cabinet secretaries have been withdrawn.
However, the political class inclined to the Ruto government defended the move sighting several laws governing the security details of former presidents and former VIPs.
These changes have evoked memories of August 26 2021 when the General Service Unit guarding the former Deputy President Dr. William Ruto's official residence in Karen was withdrawn and replaced with Administration police.
Speaking in Mombasa The Inspector General of Police Mr. Koome said there is nothing political in the scaling down of personnel
"The person in charge of the presidential escort unit that serves the retired and the serving president is led by Assistant Inspector General. Once a president is retired, he is supposed according to the law, to be guarded by a superintendent Police officer. I recalled the officer and assigned the officer a commanding responsibility according to their rank." IG Koome Said
