Yesterday UDA's Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu was kicked out of The Senate proceedings for improper dressing.
The Senator had accessed the senate chambers in a kitenge skirt and a black sleeveless top, exposing her arms which is against the House rules on dress code.
The matter was raised on the floor of the House by Migori Senator Hon. Eddy Oketch.
"I invite your attention to guide the house whether Senator Karen Nyamu is properly dressed," Hon. Eddy Oketch called the Speaker's attention.
The Senate Speaker, Hon, Amason Kingi ruled that the House rules had been violated, and ordered Karen to leave the chambers.
"Senator Nyamu, I'm going to read the speaker's Rule No. 5 for clarity. Senators are required not to enter the chamber, lounge or dining room without being properly dressed," he said.
"This means that male Senators will be dressed in a coat, collar, tie, long trousers, socks and shoes or service uniform, religious attire or such other decent dressing as may be approved by the speaker from time to time. An equivalent standard shall apply in respect of women senators who may also wear kitenges or such other African attire."
The Speaker then ordered Karen Nyamu to leave the house and return only after complying with the house rules and when properly dressed.
"Senator Nyamu, I am afraid that you don't fit the bill and i'm going to ask you to leave the chambers, go and get properly dressed and come back to the chambers," Kingi added.
On the same breath another female Senator had been kicked out of the chambers for appearing on the floor of the house wearing blood stained white suit pants as a demonstration of the ordeal girls and women go through when experiencing their menstrual cycle.
The speaker ruled that she was in violation of the house rules on decent dressing.
Senator Glori Orwoba speaking to the media after she was kicked out of the chambers stated that, the stain was a result of a natural accident.
"the stigma starts from not accepting a very natural thing like having your periods, some girls suffer to the extent that they actually kill themselves." said Hon. Glori Orwoba.
